  • The Financial Stability Webpage provides information on Obama’s Make Home Affordable Refinance and Modification Options.  They also provide a simple eligibility questionnaire that shows a possible next step for individuals in a housing crisis.  The White House has also provided a few scenarios as examples of ways the new Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan would work.
  • The U.S. Department of the Treasury provides an Updated Detailed Program Description to explain how the Making Home Affordable Program works along with Guidelines that determine acceptance to the Home Affordable Modification Program.
  • This Q & A Page provides answers to homeowners about who is eligible for government assistance and what they should be doing in order to prevent foreclosure.
  • The White House has also distributed an executive summary of the Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan.  They describe this new housing plan as part of the plan to fix America’s economic problems.  This plan is working to help restore Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  The New York Times published an article that further explains this program and its benefits.
  • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides a list of different counseling agencies by state.
  • A national conference call occurred on March 4, 2009, providing more information including that borrowers with back end ratios over 50% must see a counselor which the Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide.
  • Borrowers who are not eligible for Make Home Affordable refinance (do not have Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac mortgages, or who cannot meet income or credit requirements), may have other options such as forbearance, repayment plan, short sale, deed in lieu of foreclosure.
